Footage of Nigerian team, Stationary Stores of Lagos defeating the Bulgarian football team Trakia by 2-1 on Saturday, February 16th 1974.
It was the first game of Trakia’s five-match goodwill tour of Nigeria. Trakia came to the match with a fearsome reputation because they had already beaten the leading Ghanaian sides, Hearts of Oak of Accra and Acotex.
Trakia kicked off, playing from left to right against Stores in an all-white strip. In the early stage, both sides tried hard to set up some attacking moves but seldom got inside the opposing penalty area.
Then in the 10th minute Trakia centre-forward Kamenev raced on to a pass, outpaced two defenders and put a hard shot to the right of the goalkeeper.
But a few minutes later, Stores’ centre forward Sanni Mohammed equalised.
The second was a fairly even struggle until a few minutes before the end Stores’ Yomi Peters was fouled in the penalty area. Haruna Ilerika crashed home the penalty kick to give Stores a 2-1 victory. The crowd — many of whom had travelled long distances to see one of Lagos’ most publicised matches for a long time — went wild with delight.

Can we get the full match
The Gansallos were a prominent family involved with Stationary Stores in the 80s.
They were our immediate neighbours and family friends. Their head was a board member and a close friend of my Father's. They went back many years and often reminisced jovially about politics, school and football across from each other.
He arranged for my Dad to show for the team as a tribute to him in a televised friendly we watched and recorded on VHS. Dad came on as a sub, was fouled and scored a penalty.
He was on his way to becoming an old man by then. He couldn't wear football boots so he wore something like converse flats. We called them 'canvas' in those days.
It was a delight to all involved in both families, friends and our whole neighbourhood.
My first ever viewing of a football game in-person was Iwuanyanwu, my uncle wanted to see them visiting Lagos. Don't remember the opposition but teams of the day were such as Stores, Leventis, Abiola Babes and others. It was at the national stadium. I must have been 7 or 8.
This was a good watch. One of their coaches/staff member was Brother Eddie, who also lived with the Gansallos.
Nice video! Can you please add videos of the 1980 African Nations Cup and the 1973 All Africa Games?
